Marangatú, in Tupi-Guarani, means sacred, untouched. It is the name of a place where the Atlantic Forest meets the sea, on Brazil's Cocoa Coast. The name came before the first drawing.
Preserve before building. Listen before intervening.
Serra Grande lies between Ilhéus and Itacaré, in southern Bahia. The hotel opens in 2028. Until then, what exists here is the territory: the forest, the sea, the cocoa farms and the people who have lived on this coast for generations.

The destination
Serra Grande, between Ilhéus and Itacaré. Cocoa farms, jangadas, trails and whales between July and October.

Fishermen, craftspeople, samba players, farmers. The hotel will be built and run with those already here.

Nineteen per cent of the land built. Timber, stone and fibres from the region. The rest remains forest.
